Fear - Fear of God Versus Fear of Man: Part 3 of 9

Preview: This is the third lesson in a nine-part series entitled: FEAR.


Scripture Reading: Malachi 4:1-6.

Memory Verse: Revelation 21:8.

1. Do we find a contrast between those who fear and reverence God and those who are only fearful of the punishment in the foregoing Scripture Reading and Memory Verse?
2. What condition brings about this type of fearfulness? Hebrews 10:26-31.
3. What will be their final judgment? Revelation 21:8 & Revelation 22:15.
4. What was the difference between that and Moses’ fear which was also exceedingly great? Hebrews 12:18-21.
Note: Moses feared God and God alone. His desire was to please and trust Him. Those described in Hebrews 10:26-31 knew they had failed to obey and trust Him, therefore, they feared not God, but the judgment of God.
5. Was Jesus displeased when the disciples became fearful? Mark 4:36-41 & Matthew 8:23-26.
Note: Jesus told them they lacked faith!
6. What kind of fear did Peter, James, and John experience on the Mount of Transfiguration? Mark 9:2-6.
Note: They experienced two types of fear: the fear of the unknown and the awesome fear and respect that they felt for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah.
7. What happens when we truly see God with our Spiritual eyes? Acts 7:30-33.
Note: Moses had no fear for the bush that burned but was not consumed, but when he realized God was in the bush, he dared not look upon it. This is the same kind of reverence and fear that we must have for God.
8. What happened to those who did not have this kind of fear? Acts 7:34-42.
9. How do God’s mighty works sometimes affect sinners? Acts 16:25-33.
Note: May the Lord help us through the power of the Holy Spirit to discern the difference between fear of the Lord and fear of our circumstances.
