Preview: A lesson on what it takes to be saved.

Scripture Reading: John 3:1-21.

Memory Verse: John 1:12.

1. How do we become the children of God according to the foregoing Scriptures?
2. Why is a new life in Christ necessary for all who seek everlasting life? Ecclesiastes 7:20, Isaiah 53:4-6 & Isaiah 53:12.
3. What is sin? Has it always been in the world? I John 3:4, Romans 5:13 & Romans 4:15.
4. Does the New Testament declare that all are sinners in need of salvation? Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12, & I John 1:8 & I John 1:10.
5. How did Paul discover he was a sinner without Christ Jesus? Romans 7:7-14.
6. Is it possible to save ourselves through our good works? Ephesians 2:8-9 & Titus 3:4-7.
Note: The law could not save Paul or anyone else. Paul had already put it to the supreme test and failed. Then he discovered that God through Christ Jesus can save. But the Royal Law is necessary to show us God’s will and righteous standards. It is like a mirror. It reflects our life and shows us what sin is and makes us aware of our need for a Savior. We cannot work enough to save ourselves.
7. Does a right relationship with God produce good works in us? Titus 3:8, Ephesians 2:10 & Colossians 1:10.
Note: It is not our work and efforts that will save us, but God working in us. Only then will we become His ambassadors, doing His will from the heart.
8. What is the Lord’s part in our salvation? John 3:16, II Corinthians 5:20-21 & I Peter 3:18.
9. What is our part in receiving salvation?
    A. Believe: Acts 16:31 & Hebrews 11:6.
    B. Repent: Acts 17:30 & Acts 3:19.
    C. Confess: I John 1:9 & Proverbs 28:13.
    D. Receive: John 1:11-13 & Romans 10:13.
    E. Abide: I John 2:17 & I John 3:6.
Note: God, through Christ, has prepared the way for our salvation. He died so that we might have everlasting life. Our part is to believe in God and His promises, repent of our sins, confess that we need saving, and receive the gift of God so that we may abide daily in His will. That is our only hope of salvation.
