Willful Deception

Preview: Many Christians have allowed themselves to be distracted with worldly things. We must make a conscious decision not to deceive ourselves that there is anything on this earth better than the gift of life promised to God’s faithful.


Scripture Reading: II Timothy 3:1-9.

Memory Verse: Titus 1:16.

1. Do you believe from looking at the foregoing Scripture Reading and Memory Verse that this describes the spiritual condition today?
     A. From II Timothy 3:2 discuss:
         i. Lovers of self
         ii. Disobedience
         iii. Ingratitude
         iv. Unholy
     B. From verse 5 discuss:
         i. Having a form of religion with no power to save.
     C. From verse 7 discuss:
         i. Ever learning, never accepting the truth.
2. Why is this so? Isaiah 30:1 & Isaiah 30:9-10.
3. What did Paul say about this attitude? II Timothy 4:3-4.
Note: Only those who choose to reject God will find themselves in this condition.
4. What will finally happen to those who continue to reject the truth? Romans 1:21-32.
Note: Can we see this taking place all around us today?
5. Do we have any right to judge others if we are not clothed with the righteousness of Christ? Romans 2:1-3.
6. What will happen to us if we continue to resist the Holy Spirit? Romans 2:4-9, II Thessalonians 2:7 & II Thessalonians 2:10-12.
7. Is it God’s will that any be lost? II Peter 3:1-9.
8. Does God condemn us or do we condemn ourselves? John 3:17-18.
9. What makes it possible for us to be deceived? John 3:19-21 & Jude 1:16-19.
10. What is our only hope? Jude 1:20-21 & Jude 1:24-25.
Note: Only our own desire for sin will keep us from accepting God’s gift of life. We condemn ourselves with our own choices.
